The amazing egg 🍳
Incredibly nutrient dense, perfect texture, a whole food and super easy to make. The whole egg is healthy but for babies under 10 months it’s recommended to only give egg yolks. They are stacked with healthy fats for brain development and vitamin absorption and strengthens the intestinal wall ready for digestion. Also high in vitamin B, A and D. Also high in ‘heme iron’ which is easily absorbed by babies and what their body starts to require around 6 months.
Eggs are a high allergenic food however the whites contain the most allergens. It is recommended to try the whites between 10 & 12 months. Try egg yolk over a 3 day period without introducing any other new foods to watch for reactions and not immediately before a sleep.
For flos egg yolks I have tried a few different ways to feed her. Firstly was a ‘egg yolk omelette’. I simply seperated the egg white from yolk and cooked in a fry pan with some ghee that I had made (butter with the casein protein removed for easy digestion).
I also wanted to mix some egg with her vegetables, so I boiled water and placed a whole egg in for 3 minutes. Then placed in a bowl to cool. Once cooled you carefully break it apart until you can scoop out the egg yolk. You could feed your baby this on a spoon or mix like I did.
I mixed the egg yolk with warmed mashed pumpkin and then grated frozen liver on top. The warm vegetables will cook the liver as it’s so fine!
Or you can make a banana and egg yolk omelette. Recipe is below:
